Shanghai: Supermarket Non-Woven Shopping Bags Gradually Become The "Protagonist"

In the past two weeks since the implementation of the "plastic limit order", the use of plastic shopping bags in Shanghai's Dalian lock supermarkets has dropped by about 80%, and non-woven shopping bags have gradually become the "leading role".


Most of the customers who go shopping in supermarkets have their own nonwoven bags, folding shopping carts and even traditional bamboo baskets.

Many consumers who choose to buy plastic shopping bags at checkout time are not accustomed to it. They forget to bring their own shopping bags.

Some young people go through the supermarket after work and come in to buy something.

But many supermarkets quietly take action to not only reduce the supply of reel bags, but also place them near the weighing platform to avoid some consumers' abuse and abuse.

When the plastic limit order was just started, the supermarket's free reel bag, which was provided free of charge for packaging fruits and vegetables, was once a substitute for plastic shopping bags, and its consumption increased rapidly.


Lianhua Supermarket used to consume about 10 thousand plastic shopping bags every day, which has dropped to about 2000 per day.

Data from Carrefour also showed that in the past half a month, the consumption of plastic shopping bags in supermarkets decreased significantly, with an average decrease of about 80%, while the consumption of plastic shopping bags in some stores dropped by 90%.

Meanwhile, sales of environmentally friendly shopping bags such as non-woven fabrics, nylon and denim gradually increased.


It is understood that at present, the business sector in Shanghai is organizing a special law enforcement inspection of the sale and use of plastic shopping bags in supermarkets, shopping malls, and retail markets. The operators' free or disguised free provision of plastic shopping bags will be punished.
