Industrial Cluster: The Purchase Price Of Scattered Flowers And Egg Roll Cotton In Northern Xinjiang Has Expanded

According to the statistics of the national cotton market monitoring system, as of November 2, 2023, Xinjiang has processed more than 1485000 tons of lint in 2023/24, and the processing progress of ginning plants is 50%. It is estimated that the total amount of seed cotton purchased in Xinjiang may have reached about 2.9 million tons.

Some farmers in Shihezi, Changji, Tacheng and other places reported that, in addition to some large cotton growers (contracting for cotton planting) and cooperatives still hoarding a certain amount of egg roll cotton in the field, most individual farmers and group farm workers made about 70-80% progress in selling seed cotton, and long queues outside ginning plants were everywhere; In most cotton regions in southern Xinjiang, the harvest progress is only 35-40%, and there are too many individual farmers, so the purchase price of seed cotton is expected to be high. Therefore, the stalemate between farmers and ginners has not been broken, and the sale of seed cotton is relatively slow.

It is worth noting that, recently, the difference between the purchase price of loose flowers and egg roll cotton of the same lint percentage in some ginning plants in northern Xinjiang has rapidly expanded from 0.10-0.15 yuan/kg in the first and middle of October to 0.40-0.50 yuan/kg, and even some enterprises refused to loose flowers, which puzzled some farmers. According to industry analysis, on the one hand, egg roll cotton not only has low impurity content and good consistency, but also is affected by low temperature, frost and other weather; On the other hand, with the arrival of low temperature, precipitation and frost in most cotton areas in northern Xinjiang in late October, the moisture of scattered flowers stored in farmers' fields and homes not only increased significantly, but also had mildew and deterioration, and the grade, quality indicators or different degrees of decline; In addition, since late October, farmers in some cotton regions in Xinjiang have reacquired seed cotton and mixed it into the early loose flowers for unified sale, which is one of the reasons for the large decrease in the purchase price of loose flowers.

According to the survey, some farmers in Xinjiang believe that although the purchase price of seed cotton has been reduced by 0.50-0.60 yuan/kg in the past half a month or more, considering the direct selling price of seed cotton plus the target price subsidy, the total revenue of cotton planting in this year is not significantly affected; In addition to the psychological effect of "selling down but not selling up" and the recent increase in temperature drop, precipitation and gale weather, the reluctance of cotton farmers in northern Xinjiang to sell has continued to cool down since late October, and sales have returned to normal.
